Heather Kerzner bumps into Christina Estrada (almost Kerzner)

From The Daily Mail www.Dailymail.co.uk

It is always something of a tricky social encounter, bumping into one of your husband's first loves. But it's infinitely more difficult for the woman dumped for a younger model.

So when former model Christina Estrada arrived at the Little Black Gallery in Chelsea for an exhibition of the photos of the late Bob Carlos Clarke, the last person she wanted to see was her one-time pal Heather Kerzner, wife of South African leisure tycoon Sol Kerzner - her ex-fiance.

Californian Christina's discomfort at the meeting was evident in her rush to surround herself with friends - and a swift escape to the gallery's basement floor. But when Christina was photographed alongside gallery owner Tamara Beckwith, she was furious to discover Heather had been standing on the other side of the former It-girl and stormed out of the gallery into nearby Gilmour's restaurant.

'It's such an immature reaction,' says Heather, Kerzner's wife for the past nine years. 'She's just got to get over it. It's only one photograph and a lot of water has passed under the bridge.'

For the record we are with Heather, I mean just look how much good she has done for Uncle Sol? She has really got him on the right path so all the power to her!!!

Mariah Carey arrives in CT for One & Only Opening

Superstar diva Mariah Carey arrived in Cape Town on Thursday to lead the festivities at the glamorous opening of Sol Kerzner's new hotel. One&Only, next to the Two Oceans Aquarium in the V&A Waterfront, opens on Thursday night after an investment rumoured to have totalled R1-billion. The internationally famous hotelier - best known locally for building the vast Sun City out of the dry bushveld in the Pilanesberg mountains in the North-West province - is expected to put on one of his famously lavish shows to open his Cape Town masterpiece. A Hollywood-style red carpet is expected to be rolled out to welcome stars Robert de Niro, Sharon Stone, rapper Mos Def and Bebe Winans. Former model Yasmin le Bon will be there, with daughter Saffron. Matt Damon, who is in Cape Town working on a film about the 1995 Rugby World Cup-winning Springboks, will join them, and had supper with de Niro and Kerzner on Wednesday night. Damon will play Springbok captain Francois Pienaar in the Clint Eastwood-directed flick. Local stars attending tonight are said to include Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Sibongile Khumalo and Jonathan Butler. The 131-room hotel is marketed as a super-luxury "six-star" establishment, and guests will be fed from two restaurants bearing celebrity chefs' names. Gordon Ramsay of London will open one of his "maze" restaurants, and alongside him will be "Nobu", after Nobu Matsuhisa, the Japanese-born chef who is widely credited with bringing sushi to the Western world. The hotel was designed by Capetonian architectural firms Dennis Fabian Berman and Ruben Reddy and built by contractors WBHO. Thursday night's festivities will be hosted by Kerzner and his wife Heather and Moss Mashishi, the former head of SA Tourism who heads Matemeku Investments, Kerzner's local partner.

Gordon Ramsay To Open Maze At One&Only Cape Town

Sol Kerzner

One&Only Cape Town will welcome Gordon Ramsay’s maze restaurant at the April 2009 launch of the resort located on the Victoria & Alfred waterfront. As the first urban property in the One&Only collection, One&Only Cape Town will also host legendary chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa and the country’s largest and most innovative collection of wine in a tri-level loft.

“Maze is perfectly suited for South Africa and it is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with Sol Kerzner and the One&Only brand,” says Gordon Ramsay. “With Jason Atherton, my executive chef, overseeing the standards, I fully expect this will quickly become another one of our successful and sought-after restaurants.”

Inspired by its British namesake, maze at One&Only Cape Town will seat up to 170 guests and provide tasting-sized dishes evoking the bountiful flavours of traditional South African recipes. The restaurant will showcase local seafood and game as well as fresh produce from organic South African farms.

Designed by Adam D. Tihany, guests of maze will enjoy open views of the restaurant’s kitchen featuring South Africa’s only ‘American’ imported broiler, which exposes steaks to a temperature of 650ºC, a signature trait of the maze style cuisine. The maze space will be framed by a three-story glass wine wall boasting more than 6,000 bottles of both acclaimed and undiscovered South African vintages. Interior décor will consist of intricately textured brown chocolate wood and furniture upholstered in forest greens and burgundy earth tones. An African-inspired carpet will decorate the floor while copper and cream draperies complement sweeping views of Table Mountain.

Executive Chef Jason Atherton, who currently presides over the Michelin-starred maze in London, will develop the full menu concept and oversee the standards of service. In 2006, Jason was awarded a Michelin star for maze of London after only seven months of opening and was the first British chef to complete a stage at Spain’s famous El Bulli restaurant.

“Both Gordon and Nobu share my passion for creating and delivering extraordinary customer experiences,” says Sol Kerzner, Chairman and CEO of Kerzner International. “One&Only Cape Town marks a special homecoming for me in South Africa. With Gordon, Jason and Nobu lending their talents to this project, I’m confident that this resort will become the ultimate gourmet retreat in South Africa.”

One&Only Cape Town features 131 rooms with views of Table Mountain and the marina. In the heart of the Victoria & Alfred waterfront, the resort embodies chic island design and an African flair. One&Only Cape Town will also feature an exclusive Spa Island – a haven of serenity which will offer the most expansive and comprehensive spa in Cape Town. - Hotels Magazine
